Mobile to PC Video Calls brought to you by Yahoo Apps

Yahoo is working on a new mobile app for both iPhone and Android that enables video calls over Wi-Fi and carrier networks to Yahoo Messenger users.

It’s not quite clear whether the app will be free or not.

From the limited information I have learned about the service, I think  the service will be more feature-rich and have a much larger reach than Apple’s. FaceTime works between iPhone 4 users only and limits support to calls over Wi-Fi to maintain video call quality. Read more of this post

BlackBerry Torch: Bigger but Needs More Viagra

AT&T and RIM’s  BlackBerry Torch hit the stores this week. The new device marks the first to ship with version 6 of BlackBerry’s OS which is very important launch for RIM.

Although, RIM has finally  realized, the larger the display screen, the better, but the company totally missed the  phone’s mojos – a) the processor which is only 624 MHz,  b) the low-resolution screen! It’s way too slow compare to other smartphones in the market – in particular iPhone 4.

Check out the processors and resolutions on their competitors here: Read more of this post

Do you plan to jailbreak your iPhone 4? There is an app for that

Now that jailbreaking the iPhone is legal, take a look at JailbreakMe. It’s  the first web-based jailbreak tool for iPhone 4. It makes opening up your device as simple as a touchscreen swipe. It’ll work for any iPhone running iOS 4.0.1 or below and any iPad running iOS 3.2.1 or below.

For those who are hoping to do this on their iPod Touch 2G — please don’t. It will only make your OS slower. The best platform there is is still the 3.1.3. Read more of this post

Hilarious Comparison of iPhone 4 vs Sprint EVO 4G

This is a hilarious and original piece of comedy I found on Youtube that make fun of  how people can lock on to a brand to the point of ridicule. The iPhone could not be a better example. If you can’t laugh at it then maybe “You don’t care” either 🙂 Read more of this post

Apple Offers Free Bumpers to Remedy iPhone 4 Antenna Issue

Steve Jobs addressed growing concerns over iPhone 4 antenna reception issues at an hastily arranged press conference yesterday, pledging to provide any upset consumers a free $29 “bumper” case that’s said to alleviate reception woes. Those who purchase the device through Sept. 30 will be eligible for the case. Customers who already have purchased a case will receive refunds.

Apple has seen strong sales for the iPhone 4 since its release in mid-June, despite a reception issue that occurs sometimes when users cover the lower left end of the device. The problem — which some have labeled the “death grip” — has sparked growing outcry from customers. Earlier this week, Consumer Reports said that it could not recommend the iPhone 4 due to the flaw, and then on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) published an open letter to Apple asking that the company fix the problem free of charge. Jobs, however, said that his company had been working to resolve the issue for more than three weeks. Read more of this post

Smartphone Faceoff: EVO 4G vs. Droid Incredible vs. Nexus One vs. iPhone 4

As more and more smartphones pours into the market, the more confusing and challenging it is becoming for us to pick the one that meets our needs. On top of our previous comparison chart (Droid x vs. iPhone 4), we put together a new and more comprehensive one here.

Courtesy of TiPb, the chart stacks up iPhone 4 against the other top three smartphones in the market. You may also want to check out the videos I included right below the chart.

Just as a note, I have friends who owns all these phones. The information here in the chart was also confirmed by them. Read more of this post

Droid X vs. iPhone 4

Those of you in the same shoes as me trying to make a decision between Droid and iPhone 4, here is a comparison chart (courtesy of Mashable). Although, it’s not a complete chart, but a decent one comparing the two.

Perfect timing as I am just about to make a switch from G1 to either iPhone or Droid. The physical keyboard and screen size are the most important things for me.

It looks like both  Droid and  iPhone have many desirable features and some issues too, but my concern would be switching from T-mobile, to either Verizon (Droid)  or At&t (iPhone). I think Verizon is as good as T-mobile, but not sure about At&t. Read more of this post

The iPhone Era

Wow! I can’t believe it has been four years. Time sure flies! Rock on iPhone and the competition that keeps you on your toes. The entire smartphone market is better for it.

I am not a great fan of Apple, but we got to give them the credit. Their iPhone has seriously revolutionized the “smartphone” market. I believe it made all the other smartphone makers rethink things. Especially Microsoft with their upcoming windows 7 series.

When the iPhone was released, I was excited, not for the phone itself, but for what it would do to the industry… We needed a serious change. Read more of this post
